Reminder: Fifth International Romantic Brass Symposium

20–22 November 2018  in Biel/Bienne (Switzerland), Kongresshaus, Zentralstrasse 60.

The Fifth International Romantic Brass Symposium continues a year-long tradition at the Bern University of the Arts. Recurring on the research project Sound of Brass on the German trombone of the late 19th century, scholars and musicians from all over the world will meet to discuss the latest research in the area of brass instruments.


Keynotes will be given by Anneke Scott, Trevor Herbert and Stewart Carter, and the symposium will be accompanied by a concert with soloist Ian Bousfield (trombone).Additional papers will be presented by Christian Breternitz (Munich), Adrian v. Steiger (Bern), Jean-Marie Welter (Munich), Bastian Asmus (Gundelfingen), Alex Schölkopf (Basel), Martin Skamletz (Bern),  Ian Bousfield (Bern), Rainer Egger (Basel),  Tommi Hyytinen (Helsinki), Armin Zemp, Bart Van Damme, Benjamin Morin, & Gwenael Hannema (Dübendorf), Hannes Vereecke (Ludwigsburg), Nathaniel Wood (Brussels), Edward Reeve (Cambridge), Daniel Allenbach (Bern), Ryoto Akiyama (Osaka/Göttingen), and  Bernhard Rainer (Vienna).
