This page describes membership in the HIstoric Brass Society vs subscriptions, and provides informations and instructions for obtaining back issues of the Historic Brass Journal.

Membership in the Historic Brass Society

Membership in the Historic Brass Society (HBS) is open to all individuals interested in virtually any aspect of brass instruments and their history from their earliest origins through the 20th century. We cover everything from early iconographic evidence of brass instruments through Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods, 19th and 20th century bands and the rich history of jazz.

It is an international organization made up of amateur and professional musicians, scholars, collectors, makers and enthusiasts. It is a great organization where you can connect with others interested in similar topics and explore and learn more about other topics from experts and other enthusiasts from around the world.

Membership includes our annual peer-reviewed Historic Brass Journal that has, over more than 30 years, gained a reputation as one of the finest publications of historic brass scholarship. The HBS also holds periodic symposia and participates in conferences and symposia in the United States and abroad.

Institutional Subscriptions

Subscriptions are available to the print version of the Historic Brass Journal to organizations and institutions. Membership is only open to individuals and Institutional Subscriptions do not include voting rights in the organization, but include all print and digital publications that are provided to members as part of their membership.

Institutional subscriptions are $70 per calendar year. You may subscribe by clicking on the Join/Renew button above right or by contacting us at officemanager (at) historicbrass.org.

Also note:

1. No agency discounts are available
2. Shipping to any location is included in the price of the annual subscription price (backorders have separate shipping charge)
3. Subscriptions are for a calendar year. Publication of the Historic Brass Journal is usually toward the end of the last quarter of the year or in the first quarter of the following year. We update our membership subscription form in October for the following year's renewals/memberships. If you wish to subscribe for the current year after the website has been updated for the following calendar year, contact us at the email address above.
4. Unlike memberships, which must be renewed annually, Institutional Subscriptions are assumed to continue until we receive a cancellation request.
5. Cancellation requests must be received by October 1 of the subscription year.
6. We do not issue refunds or credits for subscription cancellations.
7. We will allow customers to claim a missing or damaged issue and we will send a replacement. This claim must be made within 3 calendar years after the subscription year.

Back Issues of the Historic Brass Journal

Back issues of the Historic Brass Journal are available for all years except ofr 2016 (which can be viewed on our website).

Pricing is as follows. Please note the shipping charges for your particular location. Shipping outside the United States has become extremely expensive. In some cases, the pricing below is below our cost. For more than 3 copies, please contact us for the shipping charge.

We will send you a payment request to the email indicated that you can use a credit card to pay.  Payment must be in U.S. dollars.
