On November 20-21, 2025, the Historic Brass Society, in conjunction with the Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse Lyon (CNSMD Lyon), will hold an International Conference celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the births of Jean-Baptiste Arban and Julius Kosleck.
These master musicians had a profound international impact on the pedagogy, instrument design, and repertoire for brass, particularly for the family of cornets and related instruments. Both went on to perform, conduct and teach, and their influence is still widely felt today.
This Conference will feature an international roster of performers and scholars, with keynote talks by Xavier Canin on Arban and Willi Budde on Kosleck, a lecture recital by Ann-Marie Nilsson with the Sextet Prins Carl from the Band of the Royal Life Guard Dragoons, and including performances by Vince DiMartino, Stanley Curtis, Friedemann Immer and ‘Brass Unlimited plays the music of the Kaiser-Cornet-Quartet’.
